Osteopathic medicine involves looking at the structure
of the body and finding where disruptive patterns
lay. The osteopath may use a variety of techniques,
unique to each physician, to unravel the source of the
restriction. Dr Hostalek utilizes cranial osteopathy,
a gentle form of balancing the fascia. Fascia is the
connective tissue that bathes our body and connects
all parts to all the others. For example, when a
person has a motor vehicle accident and gets "
whiplash" the force of that trauma usually travels
throughout the body and changes the fluidity of the
tissues, resulting in torsions of the fascia; this is
experienced as a tightening or pain.
Cranial
osteopathy is used on the entire body, not just the
head, to achieve balance of the fascia, and therefore
the entire structure. It is a gentle, but powerful
modality of treatment, especially suited to migraine
headaches, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, and motor
vehicle accidents, and for post surgical trauma (at
least 6 weeks post-op), and after childbirth.
